Resources

Resources.  Below is a list of resources I have come across in my study.  In no way is this an exhaustive list, but it is a start.  What resources have helped you?  How have they helped you?  May the resource list grow!

Kenneth J. Bailey, Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes: Cultural Studies in the Gospels. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Academic, 2008. (I am enjoying my study.  Get it for your bookshelf.)

Nancy Beach, Gifted to Lead: The Art of Leading as a Woman in the Church. Grand Rapids, Michigan: Zondervan, 2008.  (Honest, practical, real — men and women both need to read this book.  I’m not kidding).

Karen Burton Mains, Lonely No More: A Woman’s Journey to Personal, Marital, and Spiritual Healing. Dallas, TX: Word Publishing, 1993. (David and Karen Mains have been among the most influential Christian leaders in my  life).

MaryKate Morse, Making Room for Leadership, Power, Space and Influence. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press 2008. (MaryKate is a Professor of Leadership & Spiritual Formation and the director for GFU strategic planning, my seminary program and one of my professors.  This book should be on all our shelves.  It’s that important).

John E. Phelan Jr., All God’s People: An Exploration of the Call of Women to Pastoral Ministry. Chicago, IL: Covenant Publications, 2005.  (The title says it all, doesn’t it?)

Ronald W. Pierce and Rebecca Merrill Groothuis, general ed.; Gordan D. Fee, contributing ed. Discovering Biblical Equality: Complementarity without Hierarchy. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press Academic, 2005. (If you want Biblical study on crucial aspects on Biblical equality this is an important book).

Sarah Sumner,  Men and Women in the Church: Building Consensus on Christian Leadership. Downers Grove, Illinois: InterVarsity Press, 2003.  (This is an excellent book.  The questions at the end of each chapter would be excellent for dialog and discussion for men and women together.  I hope someday to be part of such a group).

William Webb,  Slaves, Women, and Homosexuals: Exploring the Hermeneutics of Cultural Analysis. Downers Grove, Illinois: InterVarsity Press, 2001. (This book is on my list of must reads… I’m getting there).
